Skiing holidays in Obertauern "right at the top"

Obertauern is one of the ski-resorts in Austria where it is most likely to snow. From the end of November till the beginning of May, many kilometres of prepared piste will delight the heart of every skier. You can head for the summit with modern lift facilities. A particular highlight is the ‘The Spot’ snow park – A meeting point for all lovers of fun sports on the freestyle scene. Glittering powder snow slopes in Obertauern’s backcountry attract adventurous freeriders.

All guests with valid ski-passes travel free of charge on the ski-bus into the surrounding ski-resorts: Obertauern - Mauterndorf - Fanningberg - Katschberg - Aineck and into Mitterberg.

Free ski-pass for all children under 5.99 years old

The CSA Grillitsch Skiing School invites all children or pre-school age (up to 5.99 years old) to use the lift systems free of charge in Obertauern.

Special feature: the Obertauern ski-pass is also valid from 1.5 days in the neighbouring skiing area, Grosseck-Speiereck in Lungau!

The Tauern circuit will lead you around the area, whereby you can travel clockwise or anti-clockwise from lift to lift. In one direction you can expect exclusively blue runs; in the other, the pistes offer richly varied skiing pleasure at all levels of difficulty for the entire family.

Super 7 - the 7 highest peaks in Obertauern Super 7

Navigate the seven tallest summit stations in the Obertauern ski-resort: Zehnerkarbahn, Hundskogelbahn, Panoramabahn, Gamsleitenbahn 2, Plattenkarbahn, Schaudbergbahn and Seekareckbahn. Down from these are challenging slopes and long pistes – which is why we only recommend these tours for seasoned winter sportsmen and women.

For all experienced and skiiers with a good head for heights, the descent from Gamsleiten 2 is a must. With a drop of up to 100%, it is one of the steepest pistes in the Alps. The 2nd chair-lift goes to the summit, where you can enjoy the unique mountain panorama. On the descent, you will lose 362 metres in altitude.

This brings even seasoned skiiers out in a sweat!

Load the iSki Tracker on your smartphone and analyse your day of skiing in detail: The kilometres of piste covered, metres of altitude dropped, speed and time – everything is recorded. Last but not least, you can you share your results with the folks at home and with your friends. The app is available for iPhones as well as Android devices.

With this app you can obtain information on open pistes and lift facilities, lodges, bars and pubs in the vicinity, panoramic views of the pistes, or current weather conditions with forecasts. With an overview of activities and events, you will always be up-to-date and can access all important and current information at a glance.

Free WIFI
Free WiFi hotspot across the entire skiing area and in the Alpine lodges

Whoever wants to stay connected can log in with a smartphone, tablet or Notebook into Obertauern’s free WiFi. With the many hotspots on the pistes in the ski-resort, you can keep your loved ones back home updated.

Family skiing options in Obertauern
Night skiing
Night-skiing on illuminated pistes in Obertauern Every Monday and Thursday you can expect a quite special event at the Edelweiss 4 chair-lift:


From 19:00 - 22:00, a piste of about 1.5 km long and in top condition will be made available for you for night-skiing. A flood-lit area will ensure the necessary visibility - a skiing experience of a quite particular kind!

In the Fairytale Park at Schaidbergbahn, a unique holiday experience awaits the whole family. In a 30 m long wooden tunnel, spooky figures lie in wait for daredevil skiiers. Creatures of the night and the Walpurgis Witches, amongst other scary monsters will ensure some special spooky fun in Obertauern in winter.

For little racers, three special pistes have been developed in the Bibo Bear family ski-park. Skiing technique should be conveyed in a fun way with these. Training in fine motor skills, balance, familiarity with winter sports equipment and of course, fun, are very much to the fore. Wave runs, mogul slopes and small ski-jumps make a day of skiing in the Bibo Bär family ski-park an adventure for little racers.
